In terms of hardware failover, we use custom rack-mount systems and extremely reliable hardware platforms. Our current servers boast only 4 hours of scheduled maintenance / downtime per week for routine software and hardware upgrades and service level checks. Most weeks it's not even necessary to take it down during this reserved period. Outside of that time, for example, we have recorded over 99% availability in the past month of activity. This is achieved because (a) we have 24 hour staff monitoring the servers and network and (b) all of our systems use RAID technology for disk failover and recovery.
